What you can type into Wordle Word Finder
- Green letters
- One character per position. Use _ for any position you have not confirmed, so c__ne means C first and NE last.
- Yellow letters
- Letters that are in the word but in the wrong place. Every one of them must appear somewhere in a result.
- Grey letters
- Letters your guesses ruled out. Words containing them are removed, unless the same letter is also entered as green or yellow.
- Word length
- Defaults to five for standard play; change it for six- and seven-letter variants.
How the results behave
- Repeated letters
- If a letter is both grey and confirmed elsewhere, enter it as green or yellow — it will be kept. The tool filters on which letters are present, not on how many times.
- Order
- Candidates are listed alphabetically within the length you chose. No guess ranking or frequency scoring is applied.
- Capped list
- A search returns up to 400 matches so the page stays fast. When you see a full 400 results, add a length or letter filter to see the part of the list you actually need.
Tips
- Enter grey letters as you collect them — ruling letters out narrows the list faster than adding another green letter.
- With many candidates left, guess a word that tests new letters rather than one from the top of the list.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out the grey letters, which keeps hundreds of impossible words in the list.
- Using a letter for an unknown green position instead of _.

Daily word games give you three kinds of information per guess: a letter in the right place, a letter in the word but elsewhere, and a letter that is not in the word at all. Combining all three usually leaves only a handful of candidates by the third guess.

It is not an official game or tournament dictionary: rare, technical and inflected words can be missing, while some names, place names and abbreviations are included even though most word games would reject them. Always check a result against the rules of the game you are playing.
